Ingredients

  • ½ cup Butter
  • ¾ cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • ½ tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 1 ¼ cup Flour

Equipment

  • mixer
  • mixing bowl

Method

  1. 1. Prepare Your Ingredients and Equipment
Before you start, gather your ingredients and preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. 2. Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, (I used my kitchen-aid mixer) beat the softened butter, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. This step incorporates air into the mixture, giving you soft and chewy cookies.
  3. 3. Add the Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully mixed before adding the next. Then, stir in the vanilla extract. These ingredients add moisture and enhance the flavor profile.
  4. 4. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly incorporate this dry mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Overmixing can lead to tough cookies!
  5. 5. Fold in the Chocolate Chips (and Nuts, If Using)
Mix in the chocolate chips, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. If you’re adding nuts, fold them in at this stage.
  6. 6. Scoop and Shape the Cookies
Use a cookie scoop or a tablespoon to drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Space them about 2 inches apart to allow room for spreading.
  7. 7. Bake to Perfection
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly underbaked. The cookies will continue to firm up as they cool on the baking sheet.
  8. 8. Cool and Enjoy
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Then, dig in and enjoy!

Notes

Pro Tips for the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Use room-temperature ingredients – This helps everything blend smoothly.
  • Chill the dough – If time allows, chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes enhances the flavor and prevents excessive spreading.
  • Experiment with chocolate – Try using a mix of chocolate chunks, chips, or different varieties for a gourmet touch.
Don’t overbake – Cookies should look slightly underdone when removed from the oven; they will firm up as they cool
